Window and Door Rebates in Winnipeg for Winter 2026–27: Efficiency Manitoba, Hydro Loans and 0% Financing

Winnipeg window and door rebates for winter 2026 to 2027, Efficiency Manitoba $100 per Energy Star unit

The short answer: a Winnipeg homeowner replacing windows or doors this winter can collect $100 per Energy Star triple-pane window or door from Efficiency Manitoba ($300 per unit for income-qualified households), finance the balance through the Manitoba Hydro Home Energy Efficiency Loan at 6.2% with payments added to your Hydro bill, or use SmartTech’s own 0% financing with no payments for up to 12 months. You can combine the rebate with either loan. This post walks through what each program pays, who qualifies, the paperwork, and the order to do things in so nothing gets missed.

I’m writing this at the end of October, which is exactly when the phone starts ringing with the same question: “Is there still money for new windows this year?” Yes. Here’s how it works in 2026.

Why rebates matter more this winter

Two things changed in 2026. Manitoba Hydro’s electricity rates went up 4% on January 1, 2026, which Hydro estimates at about $8 a month for a home with electric heat. And the winter ahead is shaping up to be an El Niño year. Forecasters give Winnipeg an 80–89% chance of a milder-than-normal winter, with fewer long cold snaps but Arctic outbreaks still possible. Milder does not mean cheap; it means the furnace cycles more often as temperatures swing, and every leaky frame shows up on the bill.

A rebate shaves a few hundred dollars off a job. The real payoff is the 15–25 years of lower heating bills that follow. Our post on whether replacing old doors lowers heating bills has the numbers.

Efficiency Manitoba Windows & Doors Rebate: $100 per unit

This is the main program for Winnipeg homeowners. According to Efficiency Manitoba, the rebate is:

  • $100 for each eligible window or door that is Energy Star certified and triple pane.
  • $300 per window or door for income-qualified households, First Nation members, and Red River Métis citizens through their separate offers.
  • Open to homeowners and landlords.
  • No published deadline, but funding is annual, so a job finished and claimed in 2026 is the safe play.

Two details trip people up. First, “triple pane” is a hard requirement. A double-pane Energy Star window is a good window, but it does not qualify. Our triple pane windows for Winnipeg homes are all Energy Star rated for Canada’s coldest climate zone, which is the one we live in. Second, the rebate is per unit, so a ten-window job is $1,000 back, not $100.

Doors qualify too, as long as the slab and glass package are Energy Star listed. A fiberglass entry door with an insulated core and triple-glazed lite is the usual way to hit that mark.

What paperwork you need

  1. An itemized invoice showing each window or door, its size, and its Energy Star model number.
  2. The Energy Star label or manufacturer spec sheet for each unit. We supply these.
  3. Proof the install is complete (invoice marked paid, or photos if asked).
  4. Your Manitoba Hydro account number.

We fill out the rebate paperwork with you at the end of every job. It takes about ten minutes at the kitchen table.

Manitoba Hydro Home Energy Efficiency Loan: finance it on your Hydro bill

If you’d rather not pay the whole job up front, the Home Energy Efficiency Loan covers windows and doors. The 2026 terms:

  • Interest at 6.2% for the first five years, on approved credit.
  • Up to $12,500 for a standard residence.
  • Payments show up as a line on your regular Hydro bill.
  • Not income-tested. You need to own the home and pass a credit check.

The catch: approval has to come before any work starts or materials are ordered. If you call us first and sign a contract, then apply, Hydro will turn it down. So the order is: get a quote, apply for the loan with that quote, get approved, then book the install. We’ve done enough of these that we can walk you through the application on the same visit as the measure.

SmartTech financing: 0% and no payments for 12 months

Some homeowners prefer to keep Hydro out of it. Our in-house windows and doors financing starts at $49 a month, offers 0% financing on approved credit, and allows no payments for up to 12 months. That means the rebate cheque arrives before your first payment does.

You cannot stack the Hydro loan and our financing on the same job (one lender per contract), but the Efficiency Manitoba rebate stacks with either one.

Which combination makes sense?

Your situation Best combination Why
Paying cash Rebate only Simplest; $100–$300 per unit back within weeks of claiming
Want the lowest long-term rate Rebate + Hydro loan 6.2% fixed, payments on the Hydro bill, up to $12,500
Want zero interest and a payment break Rebate + SmartTech 0% financing No payments for 12 months, no Hydro paperwork
Income-qualified, First Nation or Red River Métis $300 rebate + either loan Triples the rebate; ask us and we’ll point you to the right Efficiency Manitoba offer

A real Winnipeg example

Last month we replaced eight windows and a front door on a 1960s bungalow in St. Vital. Energy Star triple-pane casements and a fiberglass entry door. The homeowner claimed $900 back from Efficiency Manitoba and put the balance on 0% financing with nothing due until next fall. Her words when the first cold morning hit: “I walked past the living room window and didn’t feel it. That’s never happened in this house.”

You’ll find stories like that in our Google reviews, and you can see the kind of work we do on our Google Business Profile.

Timing: can you still get this done before deep winter?

Yes. We install year-round, and a standard job is one to two days. Read our pre-installation checklist so the house is ready, and check the seven signs it’s time to replace your windows if you’re on the fence about which ones to do first.

One tip from experience: order now. Custom triple-pane units take three to five weeks to build, and rebate funding is claimed on completion, not on signing.

Frequently asked questions

Does the rebate apply to a single window?

Yes. There is no minimum. One qualifying window is $100.

Do basement or egress windows qualify?

If the unit is Energy Star triple pane, yes. Most of our sliding windows used in basements come in a triple-pane option.

Can a landlord claim it on a rental?

Yes. Efficiency Manitoba lists landlords as eligible.

How long until the rebate cheque arrives?

Typically four to eight weeks after a complete application.

Do I need an energy audit first?

Not for the per-unit rebate. An audit is only required for larger whole-home retrofit programs.
